Citizen's Academy Begins - Registration Required

Oceanside Police Department Launches Citizen’s Academy to Enhance Community Engagement and Understanding

The Oceanside Police Department is excited to introduce its Citizen’s Academy, a new initiative to strengthen ties between law enforcement and the community. The program provides residents a unique opportunity to learn about police operations, fostering transparency and collaboration.

The Citizen’s Academy offers participants an immersive experience, allowing them to learn firsthand about various police divisions and their roles in ensuring community safety.  Sessions will cover patrol operations, investigations, community policing, and other relevant topics.

Through scenario-based training exercises and open discussions, attendees will actively engage with law enforcement professionals. Their participation will help bridge understanding, build trust, and encourage dialogue between the community and the police.

The Citizen’s Academy is scheduled to begin September 21, 2023, with eight weekly sessions from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  It will be open to all Oceanside residents aged 18 and above who can pass a basic background check; no prior law enforcement experience is required. The program is free of charge and emphasizes accessibility and inclusivity.

Interested individuals can apply online through the Oceanside Police Department website at oceansidepolice.com. The application period opens on July 12 and closes on September 7.  As space is limited to 25 attendees, applicants are encouraged to apply early.
