It is the goal of the Oceanside Fire Department to appropriately recognize members of the Department, on or off duty, or members of the community, who perform acts which exemplify the spirit and tradition of safety services or who provide an outstanding service to the Department, or to the public safety of the community.

Fire and Lifeguard Awards and Citations

Lifesaving Medal
The Lifesaving medal shall be awarded for acts that display anticipation, ingenuity, and participation in unexpected and/or unusual situations in the saving of life. Such event shall not place the nominee at extreme or great personal risk.

Medal of Merit
Exemplary behavior, outstanding achievement , and meritorious service that brings the Oceanside Fire Department significant recognition or status.

Unit Citation
Shall be awarded to companies or units for outstanding performance and attention to duty at emergency incidents.

Medal of Valor
An act of valor performed by an OFD employee which places them at extreme personal risk under adverse conditions while attempting to save the life of another, on or off-duty, at an emergency event.

Certificates Awarded to Non-fire Department Employees

Lifesaving Certificate
Awarded to a civilian for providing lifesaving assistance to another. Such lifesaving activity makes a significant impact on the outcome of the survivor.

Certificate of Appreciation
Awarded to a civilian or organization that performs an exceptional service for the Fire Department. They demonstrate a continuing commitment to the community and organization as a whole.
