Resolve to be prepared! Experts are predicting an El Niño this winter and it's time to plan ahead.
What is El Niño?
El Niño is characterized by unusually warm ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean. This area of warm water has the potential for creating wet weather patterns in the Southern California region during the fall and winter months. This means that the potential for increased rainfall and frequency of storms is great.
Oceanside City crews are working hard to prepare storm drains, roadways and City facilities for what the experts at the National Weather Service (NWS) are predicting to be a very wet winter. The San Luis Rey River Flood Control Project is a federal project of the Army Corps of Engineers. They will begin mowing the riverbed areas starting November, 2015.
These preparation efforts also require help from you!

Resident/Business Self Reporting Damage Assessment Form - San Diego County has provided this form to gain a better understanding of the totality of flood damage countywide. Completion of the form will assist the County in collecting damage information and associated costs with the current El Niño event. Information will be used to determine the estimated dollar amount of disaster damages within the County and be used to determine if enough disaster damage have occurred to be eligible for state or federal assistance. By completing this form it does not guarantee a disaster declaration will be made nor does it guarantee you will be eligible or receive disaster assistance. The results of each survey are emailed to the County of San Diego Office of Emergency Services, as well at the City of Oceanside. If you have any questions regarding information being collected or this form, please email OES@sdcounty.ca.gov.
