Write On, Oceanside! Literary Festival

  • Date: 10/05/2024 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Write On, Oceanside! is an annual literary festival hosted by Oceanside Public Library and Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation with the goal to celebrate, showcase and inspire local authors. This year's Write On, Oceanside! celebration takes place on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Community Room, Courtyard and Library, located at 330 North Coast Highway.

The event will feature spoken word poetry with Glassless Minds, author readings, dramatic readings by high school drama students, and craft activities for kids. Additionally, two free workshops at 10:45 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. will be offered in the Civic Center Library Foundation Room on the second floor:

  • At 10:45 a.m., all are invited to “Creating a Series Protagonist” with author Matt Coyle. Matt will share ways to create a series character. Matt Coyle is the author of the bestselling Rick Cahill crime series. His books have won the Anthony, Shamus, Lefty, Authors on the Air Book of the Year, and the San Diego Book Awards. He was named the 2021 Mystery Writer of the Year by the San Diego Writers Festival. His tenth book, Odyssey’s End was a Lefty Award Finalist. Matt lives in San Diego where he is writing his eleventh book, something completely new.
  • At noon, all ages are invited to the “Zine Workshop,” to get creative and learn how to make a zine with the help of graphic artist Vince Alvendia. Vince Alvendia is a local indie comic artist and illustrator. He is the artist of the graphic novel Dark Agents Book One: Violet and the Trial of Trauma. Vince also has provided cover art and illustrations for Little, Brown & Company and New Harbinger Publications, and his illustrations have been featured in the Comic-Con International: San Diego Souvenir Book.

The Write On, Oceanside! event will showcase over 20 local authors sharing from, selling, and signing their books. Winners of the six-word story contest will be announced during the event at 1:30 p.m.
